Chinese Recipes - Braised Soy Sauce Beef Recipe

Ingredients

  • 400 g (14 oz) beef shank

  • 1 turnip

  • 1 green onion, cut up

  • 1 slice ginger

  • 1 clove garlic, sliced

  • 3 tablespoons oil

  • 5-6 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1/2 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 star aniseed

  • monosodium glutamate (MSG) to taste

  • 2 cups (400 cc) water

4 servings


Method:

  1. Cut beef into 3 cm (1 1/4 inch) cubes. Scrape turnip. Cut into pieces.

  2. Heat oil. Fry onion, ginger, garlic and beef.

  3. Remove to saucepan. Add water and soy sauce, sugar, star aniseed and MSG. Cook covered till tender.

  4. Add turnip, reduce heat. Simmer.
