Asian Meats Recipes - Indonesian Fried Steak (Bistik Daging) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1lb. (500 g.) rumpsteak (tenderized; remove sinews)

  • salt, pepper & nutmeg to taste

  • 2 tablespoons vinegar                                          

  • 2 dessertspoons kicap asin/light soy sauce

  • 1/2 cup margarine

  • 1/2 cup stock

  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • 1 dessertspoon flour (blend to a paste with water)

Seasoning Ingredients:

  • salt, pepper nutmeg sugar to taste

Garnishing Ingredients:

  • 12 oz. (375 g.) potatoes (make chips)

  • 1 bunch lettuce (separate & wash leaves)

  • 4 eggs (hard-boiled, shelled & quartered)

Serves 4


Method:

  1. Rub seasoning into meat. Marinate 2-3 hours. Drain and reserve marinade.

  2. Heat margarine to smoking point and fry meat. Brown well on both sides. Cook till well-done. Drain and keep aside.

  3. Reduce heat to medium. Add reserved marinade to same fat. Mix in stock, milk, butter and seasoning ingredients. Stir well.

  4. Blend in flour-paste. Bring to the boil, then remove from flame. Pour into a sauce dish.

  5. Slice cooked steak thinly. Garnish attractively and serve with sauce.
