Asian Meats Recipes - Indonesian Steamed Meat Cake (Daging Kukus Cara Barat) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1lb. (500 g.) tender steak (minced)

  • 1lb. (500 g.) potatoes (boiled, peeled & mashed)

  • 2 eggs (hard-boiled & shelled)

  • 2 dessertspoons butter (melted)

  • 1/2 lb. (250 g.) carrots (peeled & diced)

Seasoning Ingredients:

  • salt, pepper, vinegar and chili sauce to taste

Mayonnaise Sauce Ingredients:

  • 4 egg yolks

  • pepper, mustard to taste

  • 3 dessertspoons vinegar

  • 2/3 cup melted butter/olive oil

Serves 4-6


Method:

  1. Mix together the mince and mashed potatoes. Mash the eggs and mix with the melted butter.

  2. Season the egg-mixture to taste. Mix well into mince mixture.

  3. Add carrots. Place in greased mould and cover with tight-fitting lid. Steam till cooked.

  4. Slice meat cake. Serve hot with mayonnaise sauce.

  5. To prepare sauce. Beat egg-yolks. Add seasoning to taste.

  6. Gradually beat in vinegar and melted butter. Adjust seasoning. Dish up.
