Asian Rice, Noodles and Snacks Recipes - Javanese Fried Noodles  (Mee Goreng Jawa) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1lb. (500 g.) mee kuning/fresh yellow noodles

  • 5 tablespoons cooking oil

  • 2 cloves garlic

  • 2 red chilies

  • 6 shallots

  • 1 slice laos/galangal

  • 1 tablespoon ikan bilis/dried anchovies

  • 2 shallots (sliced)

  • 1lb. (500 g.) prawns (shelled & deveined)

  • 1/4 lb. (125 g.) rump steak (sliced into small pieces & seasoned)

  • 1/2 lb. (250 g.) sawi/mustard greens (sliced)

  • 1/4 lb. (125 g.) taoge/bean sprouts (tailed)

  • 1 cup cooked crab meat (to garnish)

Seasoning Ingredients:

  • salt & pepper to taste

  • kicap asin & kicap manis/light & dark soy sauce to taste

  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce

Serves 4


Method:

  1. Heat 3 tablespoons oil on high flame. Fry the noodles 3-4 minutes. Dish up and keep warm.

  2. Add remaining oil to pan. Stir-fry pounded paste and shallots 2 minutes.

  3. Add prawns and meat. Fry till meat is tender.

  4. Add vegetables and seasoning ingredients. Stir well and fry till vegetables are tender-crisp.

  5. Spoon over fried noodles. Garnish as desired and serve hot.
