Asian Rice, Noodles and Snacks Recipes - Javanese Fried Rice (Nasi Goreng Jawa) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb. (125 g.) rump steak (sliced into thin strips)

  • 1/4 lb. (125 g.) prawns (shelled & deveined)

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

  • 2 tablespoons water

  • 3 cups cooked rice

  • 2 teaspoons ghee

  • salt to taste

prawns seasoning:

  • salt & pepper to taste

  • mixed, to 1 teaspoon kicap manis/dark soy sauce

  • 2 teaspoons kicap asin/light soya sauce

Pounded Ingredients:

  • 4 red chilies

  • 6 shallots

  • 1/2-inch (1.2-cm.) piece terasi/dried shrimp paste (dry-fried)

  • 3 cloves garlic

  • 1 teaspoon ketumbar/coriander seeds

  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Garnishing Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs (made into omelet & shredded)

  • 1 cucumber (diced)

  • 6 shallots (sliced & fried)

  • 4 krupuk ikan/fish crackers (crushed)

  • 4 lettuce leaves (shredded)

Serves 4


Method:

  1. Season meat and prawns. Leave aside for 15-20 minutes.

  2. Heat oil. Stir-fry pounded ingredients till cooked.

  3. Add meat and prawns. Stir on high flame for 2 minutes.

  4. Reduce heat. and add water. Simmer for 1 minute.

  5. Add rice and mix well. Add ghee and salt to taste. Stir on medium heat till well mixed and heated through.

  6. Remove from flame. Garnish and serve hot.
