Asian Seafood Recipes - Indonesian Fish in Creamy Gravy
(Ikan Gulai Putih) Recipe
Ingredients

1lb. (500 g.) fish
(cleaned)
-
salt to taste
-
1 tablespoon
tamarind paste
-
1 1/2 cups thin santan/thin
coconut milk
-
5 blimbing masam/finger
carambola or sour pickles
-
1 stalk serai/lemon grass
(crushed)
-
2 daun limau purut/curly
lime leaves
-
a pinch of sugar
-
1 cup thick santan/thick
coconut milk
Ground Ingredients:
Serves 4-6
Method:

Season the fish with salt and tamarind paste. Leave
aside for 10 minutes.

Mix the ground ingredients, carambola, lemon grass and lime leaves into the thin
coconut milk. Cook gently till aromatic. Season to
taste and add sugar.

Add fish to simmering
mixture and simmer till cooked through.

Add the
thick coconut milk. Blend well and adjust seasoning.
Remove from flame.

Discard lemon grass and lime
leaves. Dish up and serve hot.
