Asian Seafood Recipes - Indonesian Mild Fish Curry (Gulai Ikan)  Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. (500 g.) fish

  • salt & pepper

  • juice of 2 jeruk nipis/limes

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 daun kunyit/turmeric leaf (shredded)

  • 1 cup thick santan/thick coconut milk

Ground Ingredients:

  • 5 red chilies

  • 2.inch (5-cm.) piece kunyit/turmeric root

  • 2 slices laos/galangal

  • 1 stalk serai/lemon grass (sliced)

Serves 4-6


Method:

  1. Clean fish thoroughly and cut into serving pieces. Season well with salt, pepper and lime juice.

  2. Boil together the water, turmeric leaf and ground ingredients.

  3. When boiling fast, add fish and coconut milk. Stir-cook carefully till gravy is tl1ick and fish is tender.

  4. Season to taste. Remove from heat and discard turmeric leaf.

  5. Serve hot with boiled white rice and other dishes.
