Asian Sweets and Cakes Recipes - Indonesian Custard Cake (Kuih Talam Maizena) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup tepung hoenkue/green-pea flour

  • 4 cups santan/coconut milk

  • 1 cup melted gula Jawa/palm sugar

  • a pinch of salt

Topping Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup cornflour

  • 1 3/4 cups thick santan/thick coconut milk

  • a pinch of salt

  • 2 daun pandan/Screw pine leaves (cut)

Makes 20 pieces


Method:

  1. Blend together the first four ingredients. Bring to the boil, stirring continuously.

  2. Reduce heat and stir till thick and cooked. Remove from flame and pour into a round or square mould. Keep aside.

  3. To prepare topping. Combine all the ingredients Stir over low heat till cooked and thickened. Remove from flame. Discard leaves.

  4. Pour the topping over the layer in the mould. Allow to cool before cutting into diamond shapes. Serve.
