Asian Vegetable Dishes Recipes - Indonesian Stewed Banana Blossoms (Tumis Jantung Pisang) Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 jantung pisang/banana blossom (peeled & finely sliced)

  • boiling water, to cook

  • 3 tablespoons cooking oil

  • 2 medium onions (sliced)

  • 3 cloves garlic (sliced)

  • 1-inch (2.5.cm.) piece terasi/dried shrimp paste (dry-fried)

  • salt to taste

Serves


Method:

  1. Boil blossom in the water till tender. Drain well. Keep aside.

  2. Heat oil. Stir-fry onions and garlic till golden.

  3. Add shrimp paste and blossom. Season to taste. Add a little water and cook covered over low heat till mixture boils rapidly.

  4. Adjust seasoning. Remove from flame.

  5. Serve hot with boiled white rice, rich fish dishes and hot sambals.

Note: For a better flavor, add 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper when putting in the shrimp paste and blossom.
