Indonesian Recipes (Bali, Java) - Fried Rice (Nasi Goreng)
Recipe
Ingredients

4 cups cooked rice
-
2 eggs
-
Meat to taste, and
shrimps, or a mixture of several kinds of meat such as chicken and pork

5 shallots
-
2 cloves garlic
-
5 red chilies
-
1 tomato
-
1 teaspoon trasi
(shrimp paste)
-
1 tablespoon kecap
manis (sweet soy sauce)
-
salt, pepper
-
2 tablespoons
vegetable oil
Serves 4
Method:
-
Peel the shallots and garlic. Wash the
chilies (to
make the dish less hot, remove the seeds). Wash the
tomatoes and cut into pieces.

Grind these
ingredients together with the trasi, salt and pepper
and stir well. Then fry this spicy mixture in the
oil.

Briefly scramble the eggs in another pan. Add
the scrambled egg to the spicy mixture together
with the pieces of meat, shrimps and kecap manis.
Add the rice, stir well and continue frying while
stirring continuously.

Nasi goreng is delicious
served with fried egg or omelet, and also sate,
salad and kerupuk.

The kind and number of dishes
depends on whether it is served at breakfast, midday
or evening.
