Asian Salad Recipes - Indonesian Grilled Beef Salad (Getchok) Recipe

Ingredients 

  • 1 cucumber, thinly sliced

  • 1 onion, cut into thin wedges

  • 2 large tomatoes, cut into thin wedges

  • 225g (8oz) fillet steak 

For the dressing:

  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce

  • 2 tablespoons lime juice

  • 2 small red chilies, finely chopped

  • 2 teaspoons sugar 

  • for the garnish

  • 1 heaped tablespoon finely chopped mint leaves

  • 1 heaped tablespoon crisp-fried shallot

Serves 4


Method

  1. Preheat a hot grill. Arrange the cucumber, onion and tomato in a salad bowl and set aside.

  2. Make the dressing by mixing together all the ingredients in a small bowl, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Set aside.

  3. Grill the steak to taste (about 3 - 5 minutes on each side for medium-rare). When cool enough to handle, slice it thinly into bite-sized pieces, being sure to reserve any juices.

  4. Place the steak on the salad with any juices, add the dressing and stir well.

  5. Garnish with mint leaves and shallot and serve.
