Pork And Beef Recipes - Deep-Fried Honey Pork

Ingredients

  • 600g (20 oz) belly (five flowered) pork

  • 1 tbsp light soy or fish sauce

  • large pinch five spice powder

  • pinch of chili powder

  • salt and white pepper

  • 1 cup corn-flour (cornstarch)

  • 3 egg whites

  • deep-frying oil

  • 30g (1 oz) rice vermicelli

  • 1/3 cup clear honey

  • 2 tsp white sesame seeds


Method:

  1. Cut the pork into bite-sized cubes and place in a dish with the soy sauce or fish sauce, five spice and chili powders, salt and pepper and marinate for 40 minutes.

  2. Heat deep-frying oil and when it reaches smoking point, drop in the vermicelli to cook for 5 seconds until wee expanded and white. Remove. Spread the vermicelli on a serving plate and pile the pork on top.

  3. Make a thick batter with corn-flour (cornstarch) and water. Beat egg whites to peaks, fold into the batter. Coat the pork with batter and deep-fry for abut 7  minutes until well cooked and very crisp. Drain.

  4. Transfer about 2 tablespoons oil to another pan and ad the horny, heat to boiling and pour over the pork. Sprinkle on sesame seeds and serve at once.
